Andrée Putman’s classic Morgan Hotel has been re-imagined as a coterie of ultra-micro-apartments in lieu of Putman’s hotel rooms. The noble micro challenge (living small is living well) is the accommodation of program (bedroom, kitchen, and living) with spaciousness, flexibility and elegance. A tight composition of low-tech built-ins, including a full kitchen and flip-down (or drawer) beds is countered by a steel armature for moveable furniture elements including a sofa, a fold/swing dining table, a ledge, drawers, storage cabinets, and light fixtures. In order to extend the space, the window wall has a solar shade that doubles as a projection screen for video or photographs. Micro-living has been further extended and augmented by a gym, public living rooms and terraces for work, gatherings, dinners and parties.
…there is one thing that deeply shocks me – American closets. I cannot believe one can dress well when you have so much.– Andrée Putman
